Yoyo. I think I got a pretty interesting job as well as depressing job. I decided to give aged care a go. So far I m enjoying it. I got a number of clients, age range from 70 to 95. Most of them live by themselves and they are very lonely people.
My job scope includes, domestic, personal care, shopping and etc. I enjoyed doing grocery shopping for one of the lady. So far I got no luck to get jobs that bring the old to go out and play or have tea.
My favourite client is Mr OA, he lives with his wife in a huge house and at a expensive estate. He has dementia but most of the time he can remember my name. I see him like 4 times a week, I need to shower and shave him and also help the wife to clean the huge house. I provide respite as well so that Mrs OA can take a break from looking after Mr OA. Mrs OA ask me to encourage Mr OA to go for a walk. I told Mr OA that I need to lose weight and he happily went for short walk with me, sometimes up to two times. Every time as we walked, he will give me ideas to lose weight, like jogging, cycling and brisk walking. And he told his wife that I love to walk. Haha.
Few days ago, I went to attend to him, but he was pretty weak, he couldnt stand properly and was pretty wobbly. My heart just sadden, I m so sad to see their health weaken as days go by. Yesterday, the wife told me that he got some infection and now on medication. I prayed that he will get well soon.
Another client of mine(actually I m helping a colleague for 3 weeks), Mr JS, I have to shower him alone. When i first got to his place, the house stink with urine smell. I almost faint. He is quite a nice guy. The second visit to his house, he started to say something weird and not pleasant to my ears. and the third visit, i told myself that it is going to be my last visit. He didnt do anything to me, is only that the things he said was very strange. Anyway, my co-ordinator understands the situation and tells me not to go back.
Mr MJ, he is 93 years old. Every time i visit him, he will tells me that he misses his wife(who has pass away). I can understand how they feel. Imagine living alone in a big house, nobody to talk to and nothing much to do. They usually wake up around 5 am and sleep at 9pm, it is such a long day for them. I enjoy going to Mr MJ because i need to cook for him. I think the life of the aged is really simple, he basically has steak, potatoe and peas for dinner everyday.
Well, still got lots more to tell, but i m getting lazy.. ;p That's all for now.
